EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF LIHE

Dr. Claus Nygaard
Professor in Management Education at Copenhagen Business School, Denmark. Originally trained in business economics and administration, where he holds a PhD, he first became Associate Professor in Economic Sociology at Department of Organization at Copenhagen Business School. In 2000 he changed position to CBS Learning Lab, and began to work with Quality Enhancement of Higher Education. He was a driving force behind the formulation and implementation of the “Learning Strategy” for Copenhagen Business School in 2005. Claus is currently Professor at Department of Management, Politics and Philosophy at Copenhagen Business School focusing his educational research on the link between identity and learning. He has received distinguished research awards from Allied Academies, outstanding paper awards from Students in Free Enterprise, and he was voted “best teacher” at Copenhagen Business School in 2001. His research has resulted in several books and anthologies, and he has published in leading journals such as Higher Education, International Studies of Management & Organization, International Journal of Public Sector Management, and Assessment & Evaluation in Higher Education.


CO-DIRECTORS OF LIHE

Dr. Nigel Courtney
Honorary Senior Visiting Fellow at Cass Business School, City University London, where he gained the MBA and was awarded his PhD. He is a Visiting Fellow at the University of Technology, Sydney. Nigel is a chartered engineer, a certified management consultant and a certified IT professional with extensive experience in project and general management. Clients of his firm, Courtney Consulting, include the European Commission, Deloitte & Touche, Metropolitan Police, Transport for London, The Post Office and the UK National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts. Nigel co-authored PD7502 on Knowledge Management for the British Standards Institute and is co-originator of the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA.org.uk). Nigel’s teaching practice includes MBA programmes and MSc courses in Economics and on Information Leadership. His research interests include innovation in education, business innovation, the extraction of business value from ICT, and the use of communications technologies for social change.

Dr. John Branch
Professor John Branch currently teaches a variety of marketing and international business courses at the undergraduate, M.B.A., and executive levels at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan (U.S.A.). Until recently, he also served as Director of Educational Outreach at the University’s William Davidson Institute, which focuses on emerging and transitional economies; he was responsible for the development and dissemination of pedagogical materials. He is also affiliated with the University’s Center for Russian, East European, & Eurasian Studies. Prior to joining Ross, Professor Branch was on the faculty of the John M. Olin School of Business at Washington University in Saint Louis (U.S.A.) for five years. He began his academic career in 1993, however, as an Assistant Professor of Marketing at École Supérieure de Commerce de Rennes in France. Since then, he has also served as an adjunct or visiting professor at more than 40 business schools throughout world, including the Rotterdam School of Management (Netherlands), the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), ESAN (Peru), and the Sasin Graduate Institute of Administration (Thailand). He was also a visiting scholar at Queen Elizabeth House of the University of Oxford (England) and at the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management of Northwestern University (U.S.A.).

Clive Holtham
Professor of Information Management and Director of the Learning Laboratory at Cass Business School, London, UK. After taking a Masters degree in management, he trained as an accountant and was Young Accountant of the Year in 1976. Following six years as a Director of Finance and IT, he moved to the Business School in 1988. His research is into the strategic exploitation of information systems, knowledge management and management learning. He has been an adviser to the European Parliament on educational technology, and led a major EU project on measurement and reporting of intangibles as well as the highly rated QuBE project into quality enhancement in business schools. In 2003 he was awarded a UK National Teaching Fellowship, and is a board member of the Non-Profit E-learning Network (2008-2011), a major initiative to promote management education through informal online learning. He is author of a large number of publications, and lectures, broadcasts and consults in the UK and internationally. He was a founding member of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists, the City of London’s 100th livery company.
